HMRR-05YN – Hastati – Yellow Shields
Building an ancient army in miniature is often a matter of finding enough variation to create numbers without making the formation appear repetitive.
HMRR-05YN is particularly useful for that purpose, adding further yellow-shielded Hastati to the Roman Army of the Mid-Republic.
These were the troops expected to make the first major infantry contact with the enemy. Behind them stood the Principes and, ultimately, the veteran Triarii, giving the Roman commander several layers of heavy infantry upon which to draw.
In a display, HMRR-05YN can be incorporated directly among the larger yellow-shield sets or positioned around the flanks to widen the formation.
Add standards, musicians and officers among the ranks and the result can develop into a substantial Roman battle line suited to scenes from the wars against the Samnites, Carthaginians or other enemies of the Republic.
