HMRR-09Y – Hastatus – Yellow Shield
The Hastati were not elite warriors standing apart from the legion. They were an integral part of a layered tactical system in which different groups of Roman heavy infantry could be committed as a battle developed.
HMRR-09Y portrays one of these soldiers with a yellow shield.
The younger Hastati were traditionally positioned ahead of the Principes and Triarii. If their attack failed to settle the engagement, the subsequent lines gave the Roman formation additional depth and resilience.
That tactical background makes the figure particularly interesting when displayed as part of a complete legion rather than as a standalone warrior.
Use HMRR-09Y to widen the yellow-shield formation, place him near the edge of a manipular group or mix him between the larger army-builder sets.
