HMRR-11YN – Three Hastati with Yellow Shields | John Jenkins Designs
The Roman army of the Mid Republic developed a highly effective infantry system that helped establish Rome as the dominant military power in the Mediterranean.
The hastati formed the first line of heavy infantry within the manipular legion. These soldiers were generally younger men who were expected to engage the enemy before the more experienced principes and triarii were committed.
Their weapons included the pilum, a heavy throwing javelin, and the gladius, a short sword used for thrusting and cutting during close combat.
Roman soldiers carried large shields that provided protection and helped them maintain a strong fighting formation.
During the Punic Wars, the hastati were regularly called upon to confront the armies of Carthage, including Hannibal's experienced infantry forces.
HMRR-11YN – Three Hastati by John Jenkins Designs depicts three Republican Roman infantrymen carrying yellow shields, with their swords held at chest height and the blades angled upwards.
Part of The Roman Army of the Mid Republic collection, this set is ideal for building the first line of a Roman manipular formation.
