HMRR-12R – Hastatus – Red Shield
HMRR-12R – Hastatus represents another of the citizen infantrymen upon whom Rome relied during its dramatic expansion in the centuries before the Imperial period.
The Roman Republic demanded military service from its citizens, and warfare became an almost continuous feature of Rome's rise. Campaigns could take soldiers across Italy and eventually overseas as Roman interests expanded.
The Hastati were expected to withstand the pressure of being among the first heavy infantry committed. Their equipment gave them a combination of protection, missile capability and close-combat effectiveness.
In a collection, HMRR-12R can be mixed among the other red-shield warriors or placed closer to the enemy to suggest a formation beginning to lose its perfect alignment as combat approaches.
