HRSBUD-03B – Army Mules – Battle of the Rosebud

On 17 June 1876, George Crook's column encountered a substantial force of Lakota and Northern Cheyenne warriors near Rosebud Creek in Montana Territory.

The resulting Battle of the Rosebud was a lengthy and highly mobile engagement, fought across rugged terrain by cavalry, infantry, allied scouts and Native American warriors.

HRSBUD-03B – Army Mules focuses on the logistical side of Crook's expedition.

A force operating deep in the field needed to carry food, ammunition and other supplies, and pack mules were exceptionally valuable where difficult country limited the usefulness of wheeled transport.

The animals make an excellent addition behind the main Rosebud battlefield, perhaps grouped with supplies while the fighting develops farther forward. They can also be incorporated into a marching column before the engagement.

Adding logistical elements such as these gives the collection a much broader sense of campaign life rather than portraying only the moment of combat.

Available through The Military Workshop – a characterful John Jenkins Designs Army Mule set adding the vital supply element to a Battle of the Rosebud collection.
