IC-05A – Iceni Warrior Charging

In AD 60 or 61, a major revolt erupted in Roman Britain under the leadership of Boudica, queen of the Iceni.

The uprising followed a severe deterioration in relations between the Iceni and Roman authorities after the death of Boudica's husband, Prasutagus. Ancient accounts describe Roman mistreatment of Boudica and her family, although the surviving literary sources were written by Roman authors and need to be read with appropriate caution.

IC-05A – Iceni Warrior Charging captures one of the tribal warriors taking part in the revolt, shown at the moment of rushing towards the enemy.

Boudica's coalition achieved dramatic early successes. Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London) and Verulamium (St Albans) were attacked and destroyed before the Romans could regain the initiative.

The charging pose makes IC-05A ideal for the front of a Celtic formation. Place him among other warriors moving towards a Roman line rather than arranging the figures in tightly disciplined ranks.

That contrast between the Roman formation and the more individually posed tribal warriors can create a particularly striking battlefield.

Available from The Military Workshop – a dynamic John Jenkins Designs Iceni warrior bringing the fury and movement of Boudica's revolt to a Roman Britain collection.
