INCA-06A - Inca Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
This Inca Warrior represents a soldier belonging to the military forces of the Inca Empire, which extended across a vast area of western South America before the Spanish conquest of the 16th century.
The Inca Empire was remarkable for its sophisticated political organisation, extensive road networks, monumental stone architecture and highly developed agricultural systems.
Despite lacking many technologies commonly associated with Old World empires, including iron and steel tools, wheeled transport and a conventional writing system, the Incas created an exceptionally organised state.
The empire's military strength depended upon trained soldiers drawn from its various territories. Among the most prestigious were the elite Inca contingents associated with Hanan Cusco and Hurin Cusco, the two traditional divisions of the capital.
Experienced soldiers were known as Huaminca, meaning veterans. These warriors underwent rigorous training from approximately fourteen or fifteen years of age, learning to handle and manufacture different weapons.
Their training also included tests of courage, stamina and military skill, with successful warriors receiving recognition for their accomplishments.
This figure provides a useful addition to Inca infantry formations, particularly when displayed alongside other spear-armed warriors and military figures from the collection.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
