IWA-03 – 95th Pursuit Squadron
The 95th Pursuit Squadron has roots stretching back to the First World War and became one of the units associated with the colourful development of American pursuit aviation during the inter-war period.
IWA-03 brings the identity of the 95th Pursuit Squadron into the John Jenkins Designs aviation collection, providing collectors with another link between the pioneering airmen of the Great War and the rapidly modernising U.S. Army Air Corps of the 1920s and 1930s.
The inter-war pursuit squadrons were important laboratories for developing fighter tactics, pilot training and aircraft operation. Their pilots witnessed an extraordinary technological transformation as wood-and-fabric biplanes gradually gave way to faster, predominantly metal monoplanes.
