IWA-04 – 94th Aero Squadron
The 94th Aero Squadron occupies a special place in the history of American military aviation. Established during the First World War, it became famously associated with the “Hat in the Ring” insignia and with some of America's best-known early combat aviators.
Among the pilots who served with the squadron was Eddie Rickenbacker, who became America's leading fighter ace of the First World War with 26 credited aerial victories.
The squadron's history did not end with the Armistice. It continued into the inter-war period as American military aviation evolved from its First World War beginnings towards the more sophisticated pursuit forces of the 1930s.
IWA-04 – 94th Aero Squadron allows collectors to incorporate this famous unit into a John Jenkins Designs aviation display. It works especially well alongside aircraft and airfield accessories representing the colourful years between the wars.
The famous unit identity also provides an historical thread connecting the fragile fighters of 1918 with the increasingly modern machines that appeared during the following two decades.
