JAN-03 – Janissaries
The Janissaries were not simply colourful palace guards. At various points in Ottoman history they were front-line soldiers whose discipline and firearms could play an important role in major campaigns.
JAN-03 – Janissaries adds further infantry to this celebrated Ottoman corps.
During the empire's great period of expansion, Ottoman armies combined several different military elements: cavalry, artillery, irregular troops and centrally organised infantry. The Janissaries formed a particularly important part of this mixture.
Their distinctive appearance makes them immediately recognisable in miniature and gives an Ottoman army a very different visual character from contemporary Western European forces.
JAN-03 is particularly useful when combined with the other Janissary poses. Rather than repeating one set across an entire formation, different releases can be distributed throughout the ranks to suggest a substantial but varied body of infantry.
