JJCLUB-SET#18 – Lieutenant General Marquis de Montcalm
Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, Marquis de Montcalm, became the most famous French military commander associated with the final years of the French and Indian War in North America.
Arriving in New France in 1756, Montcalm commanded regular French forces during a period when Britain was committing increasing resources to the conquest of the colony.
His early campaigns included notable French successes, including the capture of Fort William Henry in 1757 and the remarkable defence of Fort Carillon – Ticonderoga – in 1758, where a much larger British force was repulsed.
The strategic situation had deteriorated severely by 1759. British forces under Major General James Wolfe threatened Quebec, and on 13 September 1759, Montcalm led his army onto the Plains of Abraham to confront them.
The French were defeated, and Montcalm was mortally wounded during the retreat. He died the following day.
JJCLUB-SET#18 gives collectors one of the central personalities of the struggle for New France. Place Montcalm with French regulars and officers at Quebec or use him as the commanding figure in a broader French and Indian War display.
Available through The Military Workshop – a superb John Jenkins Designs portrayal of the Marquis de Montcalm, one of the defining military personalities of the struggle for North America.
