JJCLUB-SET#4 – Ensign Durantaye & Cadet Richelieu – 2 Pieces
The armies of New France operated in an environment very different from the conventional European battlefield. Dense forests, rivers, long distances and scattered settlements placed particular demands upon officers and soldiers alike.
JJCLUB-SET#4 pairs Ensign Durantaye and Cadet Richelieu, giving collectors two French personalities for this North American military setting.
An ensign was a junior commissioned officer, traditionally associated with responsibility for a unit's colours, while a cadet was a young gentleman gaining military experience and preparing for the responsibilities of commissioned service.
Together, the figures work naturally as a small command vignette. They can accompany French regulars, stand within a wilderness encampment or be placed around fortifications and other New France scenery.
Their youthful ranks also provide an interesting contrast with senior commanders such as Montcalm, showing another level within the French military hierarchy.
Available through The Military Workshop – a distinctive two-piece John Jenkins Designs Collectors' Club set adding junior French officers to the military world of New France.
