JRCHARLIE-01 – Bonnie Prince Charlie – Jacobite Army
At the centre of the Jacobite Rising stood Prince Charles Edward Stuart, remembered to history as Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Grandson of the deposed King James II and VII, Charles landed in the Scottish Highlands in July 1745 determined to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne.
His prospects initially appeared extremely uncertain. Yet support gathered, Edinburgh was occupied, and the Jacobites won a dramatic victory at Prestonpans. The army then invaded England, advancing as far south as Derby before its commanders decided to retreat.
JRCHARLIE-01 portrays the man around whom that extraordinary campaign revolved. He is the natural centrepiece of any John Jenkins Designs Jacobite collection.
Surround the Prince with his Lifeguard, cavalry and standards, placing the group behind the Highland and Lowland infantry. Used this way, Bonnie Prince Charlie provides the army with both a command point and the political identity that separated the Rising from an ordinary military rebellion.
After Culloden, Charles spent months in hiding before escaping to the Continent. He never again came so close to recovering the Stuart throne.
Available from The Military Workshop – an essential John Jenkins Designs portrayal of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the charismatic and ultimately unsuccessful figurehead of the Jacobite Rising of 1745.
