JT-03 – Jacobite Pikeman
JT-03 – Jacobite Pikeman introduces a very different weapon to the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie and adds welcome variety among the swords, muskets and targes.
The pike had dominated parts of European infantry warfare during the preceding centuries, particularly when formations needed protection against cavalry. By the mid-18th century, the widespread adoption of the musket and bayonet had greatly reduced its battlefield importance in regular European armies.
Yet pole weapons had not disappeared entirely, particularly among forces whose equipment was less standardised.
The long weapon carried by JT-03 gives the figure a dramatically different silhouette from the surrounding Highlanders. He can be positioned among other close-combat troops, where the reach of the pike provides an obvious contrast to swords and bayonets.
For collectors, this is exactly the kind of figure that prevents a Jacobite formation from becoming visually repetitive. Used alongside targe warriors, musketeers, pipers and charging Highlanders, he contributes to the irregular character of the army.
Available from The Military Workshop – a distinctive John Jenkins Designs Jacobite Pikeman adding another weapon type and another layer of character to the forces of the 1745 Rising.
