LEUT-04 “Army of Frederick the Great – Prussian Grenadier Casualties #1” is a dramatic three-piece set from John Jenkins Designs, depicting the harsh reality of infantry combat during the age of Frederick the Great.
Prussian grenadiers were among the most disciplined and formidable infantrymen of the 18th century. Under Frederick II of Prussia, the army became famous for its precision drill, rapid battlefield manoeuvres and ability to deliver controlled volleys under intense pressure. Grenadiers were traditionally selected from some of the strongest and most experienced soldiers and were often expected to take on demanding battlefield roles.
LEUT-04 presents the other side of that reputation for discipline and battlefield effectiveness. Rather than showing troops advancing or firing in perfect formation, this set depicts Prussian grenadiers as casualties, bringing a greater sense of realism and consequence to a Seven Years’ War display.
The three figures can be positioned among advancing infantry, behind a firing line or across a contested section of battlefield to create a scene with far more depth and movement. Casualty figures such as these are particularly effective in larger dioramas because they break up the regularity of marching and firing formations and help convey the confusion and violence of 18th-century warfare.
During battles such as Leuthen, Rossbach, Zorndorf and Kunersdorf, Prussian infantry endured extremely heavy fighting against Austrian, Russian, French and other opposing forces. Victory often came at considerable cost, and even Frederick’s highly trained grenadiers were vulnerable to musket fire, artillery and close combat.
With three separate figures included, LEUT-04 offers plenty of flexibility when arranging a display and works particularly well alongside other Prussian infantry sets from the Army of Frederick the Great series.
