M-WIN-16 – Sillidar Cavalry – Maratha Cavalry
A Maratha army without cavalry would miss one of the defining features of its military reputation.
M-WIN-16 adds another Sillidar cavalryman, giving collectors further variation when building the mounted arm of the Maratha forces.
The Maratha Confederacy became a major power during the 18th century, but its armies were not static or uniform. Military practices evolved, and European-style drilled infantry and artillery increasingly existed alongside the highly mobile cavalry for which Maratha warfare had long been famous.
This combination makes the range especially interesting to collect. Mounted Sillidars can sweep across the flanks while infantry and artillery occupy the centre, creating a battlefield with very different types of movement.
M-WIN-16 can be mixed with M-WIN-15 and the Bargir cavalry rather than keeping each type isolated. The resulting group provides both visual variety and an opportunity to represent different forms of Maratha mounted service.
Available from The Military Workshop – a dynamic John Jenkins Designs Sillidar adding another horseman to the formidable cavalry forces of the Marathas.
