M-WIN-30 – Standard Bearer & Musician – Maratha Infantry

Standards and music gave an infantry formation something that rows of muskets alone could not provide – identity, communication and a visible centre around which the men could organise.

M-WIN-30 pairs a Maratha Standard Bearer and Musician, making the set a natural focal point for the Maratha infantry collection.

During the 18th century, Maratha armies underwent considerable military development. Although their cavalry remained famous, infantry and artillery became increasingly important, and some Maratha forces adopted drill and organisation influenced by European military practice.

The standard bearer provides the unit with a strong visual landmark, while the musician represents the importance of sound for communicating and maintaining order among troops on a noisy battlefield.

Position these figures near the centre of the M-WIN-31, M-WIN-32 and M-WIN-33 infantry rather than at the front edge. The standard will rise above the surrounding soldiers and naturally become the centre of the formation.

Available through The Military Workshop, M-WIN-30 is an excellent John Jenkins Designs command set for collectors wanting to turn a group of Maratha infantry into a convincing organised unit.
