MAC-03N2 – Nine Phalangites – Macedonian Phalanx
MAC-03N2 provides the scale that a Macedonian phalanx really needs: nine Phalangites ready to form several ranks of massed pikes.
The army created by Philip II and taken across Asia by Alexander was one of the most sophisticated military systems of the ancient world. Its success came from combining different troop types whose strengths compensated for one another's weaknesses.
Phalangites supplied the army with an extraordinarily powerful infantry formation, but the long sarissa made rapid changes of direction difficult once the ranks became disordered. Maintaining cohesion was therefore essential.
A nine-figure set allows collectors to show that density immediately. Place the men in depth so that the sarissas overlap and project forward in layers.
Additional three-man sets can then extend the formation, while Macedonian cavalry and lighter troops can occupy the flanks.
The result is far more than nine individual figures – it becomes a miniature representation of the military machine that accompanied Alexander from Greece into the Persian Empire.
Available from The Military Workshop – an impressive nine-piece John Jenkins Designs Macedonian Phalanx set built for collectors who want their ancient army to possess genuine depth and presence.
