MAC-02N2 – Nine Phalangites with White Shields

The Macedonian phalanx is a subject where numbers genuinely matter.

MAC-02N2 provides nine Phalangites with white shields, allowing collectors to create a substantial section of pike infantry immediately.

Under Philip II, Macedon's army was transformed through training, organisation and the development of the sarissa phalanx. Alexander subsequently used this infantry as the solid centre of an army that also included elite hypaspists, cavalry, missile troops and allied contingents.

The phalanx was formidable from the front, but it was not designed to win battles entirely on its own. Alexander frequently used it to hold and pressure the enemy while cavalry and other troops delivered decisive attacks elsewhere.

Nine figures arranged in several ranks give an excellent impression of that battlefield role. Add further MAC sets to the sides and rear and the formation can become one of the most imposing ancient infantry displays in a collection.

The white shields provide a strong sense of unity across the group and make the massed sarissas even more visually striking.

Available from The Military Workshop – an impressive nine-piece John Jenkins Designs Phalangite set, perfect for collectors wanting to build the Macedonian army on the scale the subject deserves.
