MAC-06A – Three Phalangites with Coloured Shields

MAC-06A introduces another trio of coloured-shield Phalangites, giving collectors still more freedom to vary the appearance of a large Macedonian army.

The shield patterns provide visual interest, but the formation remains the key. Macedonian phalangites were trained to operate collectively with sarissas whose length demanded close coordination.

When viewed from the side, several ranks reveal just how different this system was from the older hoplite phalanx. The extraordinary reach of the pikes allowed weapons from men behind the front rank to project towards the enemy.

MAC-06A works particularly well as part of a mixed-shield unit, where the additional colour prevents a large formation from appearing overly uniform.

Place the three figures among other A-coded releases and allow the forest of sarissas to visually tie the different shield designs together.
