MAC-35N – Macedonian Hypaspists | John Jenkins Designs
The Hypaspists were among the most important supporting infantry formations serving in the armies of Philip II and Alexander the Great.
Their battlefield responsibilities were closely connected with the Macedonian phalanx, whose heavily armed soldiers carried the formidable sarissa pike.
The phalanx formed the defensive centre of Macedonian battlefield tactics, while the Companion Cavalry delivered powerful offensive attacks against vulnerable enemy positions.
This system became known for its hammer-and-anvil tactics, with the phalanx holding enemy formations in place while the cavalry delivered the decisive blow.
The Hypaspists were positioned on the flanks of the phalanx, preventing enemy soldiers from exploiting the formation's limited manoeuvrability.
MAC-35N – Macedonian Hypaspists by John Jenkins Designs is a two-figure set representing members of this elite Macedonian infantry unit.
The set contains two Hypaspists with contrasting shield decorations, including purple and black markings on their bronze shields.
These figures are particularly suitable for positioning alongside the Macedonian phalangites or combining with the other Hypaspist sets to form a larger defensive contingent.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection.
