MACSS-02A – Argyraspides (Silver Shields) | John Jenkins Designs
The Argyraspides, commonly known as the Silver Shields, were among the most distinguished infantrymen to serve in the army of Alexander the Great.
Originally members of the elite Hypaspists, these carefully selected troops served alongside the Macedonian phalanx and played an important role in protecting its vulnerable flanks.
During Alexander's campaigns in India, the unit became known as the Argyraspides, a name associated with the silver-plated shields carried by its soldiers.
These veteran warriors enjoyed considerable prestige within the Macedonian army and served under distinguished commanders including Nicanor, son of Parmenio, and Seleucus.
The Argyraspides were particularly valuable because of their ability to operate with greater flexibility than the heavily armed Macedonian phalanx.
MACSS-02A – Argyraspides by John Jenkins Designs is a two-figure set depicting members of this elite Macedonian infantry formation.
The warriors are represented wearing yellow and purple armour, carrying their distinctive silver shields and spears.
One figure is depicted with his spear raised to thrust downward, while the other holds his spear at shoulder height.
Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Greece and Macedonia collection, this set complements the other Argyraspides and their commander Nicanor.
