MBHL-18 - British Marine Grenadier and Officer | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set depicts a British Marine grenadier and officer during the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775.

The figures represent members of the British Marine establishment who participated in the assaults against the American colonial fortifications constructed on Breed's Hill.

British Marines were trained for service aboard Royal Navy vessels as well as military operations ashore. During 1775, Marine detachments in Boston were organised into battalions that included grenadier and light infantry companies.

Grenadiers traditionally represented the assault element of eighteenth-century infantry formations and were frequently employed in demanding battlefield operations.

Officers were responsible for maintaining discipline, directing troop movements and ensuring orders were carried out during an engagement.

At Breed's Hill, British Marines participated alongside regular infantry in repeated assaults against the American defences. The defenders repulsed two attacks before the British finally succeeded in capturing the redoubt during the third assault.

The fighting resulted in substantial casualties among the British attackers.

MBHL-18 provides a distinctive two-figure addition to the British Marine collection, combining a grenadier with a command figure.

It is particularly suitable for display alongside British Marine light infantry, drummers and standard bearers to recreate the attacking forces at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
