MBHL-19 - Two British Marine Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set depicts British Marine Light Infantry engaged in the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775.
The figures include one Marine standing and ramming his musket during the loading process and a second kneeling and firing his weapon.
The contrasting poses represent two important stages of eighteenth-century musket warfare, when soldiers were required to load and fire their muzzle-loading weapons repeatedly during an engagement.
The British Marines were organised into battalions for the fighting around Boston and participated in the assaults against the American colonial position on Breed's Hill.
Although the British had superior numbers and professional military experience, their initial attacks encountered determined resistance from the defenders occupying the earthwork fortifications.
The American forces successfully repulsed two major assaults before eventually withdrawing during the third, after their ammunition supplies became exhausted.
The fighting resulted in heavy British casualties and became one of the important early engagements of the American War of Independence.
MBHL-19 is ideal for collectors wishing to create a British Marine firing position or extend an existing infantry formation.
It can be displayed alongside MBHL-20 and the larger four-figure Marine Light Infantry sets to represent the British assault on Breed's Hill.
