MBHL-20 - Two British Marine Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set depicts British Marine Light Infantry during the Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on 17 June 1775 near Boston, Massachusetts.
The figures represent one Marine standing and firing his musket and another kneeling while reaching for ammunition.
These contrasting poses capture the activities of eighteenth-century infantrymen during sustained musket engagements, when soldiers were required to repeatedly load and fire their weapons under battlefield conditions.
The British Marines operated as part of the Royal Navy's military establishment but were trained to undertake fighting ashore alongside regular British army units.
During the Battle of Bunker Hill, Marine battalions participated in the repeated attacks against the American colonial defences on Breed's Hill.
The American defenders, commanded by Colonel William Prescott, successfully repulsed the first two major assaults before eventually withdrawing during the third attack.
The British victory came at a considerable cost, with heavy casualties among the attacking troops.
MBHL-20 provides a useful addition to a British Marine firing line and can be combined with MBHL-19, MBHL-21 and the corresponding four-figure sets to recreate the fighting around the redoubt.
