MBHL-20N - Four British Marine Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
This four-figure set represents British Marine Light Infantry engaged in the fighting at Breed's Hill during the Battle of Bunker Hill on 17 June 1775.
The set contains four figures in two different poses, with two standing and firing their muskets and two kneeling while reaching for ammunition.
The combination of firing and ammunition-handling poses illustrates the loading and firing process used by infantry soldiers armed with muzzle-loading muskets during the eighteenth century.
British Marines formed part of the force assembled in Boston to confront the American colonial rebellion. Their units were trained for naval and land service and were organised into battalions for the fighting around Breed's Hill.
During the battle, British infantry and Marines advanced repeatedly against the colonial earthworks, where the defenders inflicted significant casualties with carefully directed musket fire.
After two unsuccessful attacks, the British finally captured the redoubt during a third assault, when the Americans were running short of ammunition.
MBHL-20N is ideal for collectors wishing to create an active British firing line, with standing and kneeling figures providing variation within the formation.
The set can be combined with MBHL-19N and MBHL-21N to depict Marines at different stages of the attack on the redoubt.
