MRRCAV-03Y – Roman Cavalry with Yellow Shield | John Jenkins Designs

The military campaigns of the Roman Republic required soldiers capable of fighting across a wide variety of landscapes and against numerous different opponents.

Although the Roman legion was built around its heavy infantry, mounted cavalrymen provided vital reconnaissance and battlefield mobility.

Roman cavalry were employed for scouting, screening the movements of infantry formations, protecting exposed flanks and pursuing retreating enemies.

During the Second Punic War, Rome faced a particularly difficult challenge from the highly mobile cavalry forces of Hannibal, including his renowned Numidian horsemen.

The effectiveness of these opposing cavalry forces demonstrated the importance of mounted troops during ancient warfare.

Roman cavalrymen carried spears, swords and shields, while their saddles helped secure their position during mounted combat in an era before the widespread use of stirrups.

MRRCAV-03Y – Roman Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Republican Roman cavalryman carrying a yellow shield and holding his spear at eye level.

Part of The Roman Army of the Mid Republic collection, this figure makes an excellent addition to displays depicting the Roman cavalry of the Punic Wars.
