MRRCAV-07R – Roman Cavalry with Red Shield | John Jenkins Designs

The Roman Republic's military strength depended upon the cooperation of infantry and cavalry, with each contributing a different capability to the battlefield.

During the Punic Wars, Roman cavalrymen were employed to scout enemy positions, protect the flanks of the legions and engage hostile mounted forces.

The cavalry of the Mid Republican period was traditionally associated with the equites, the wealthier Roman citizens who possessed the means to equip themselves for military service.

Their weapons included spears and swords, while shields provided protection during mounted engagements. Fighting without stirrups required considerable horsemanship, particularly when delivering a forceful attack with a spear.

Roman cavalry faced formidable opponents during the Second Punic War, especially the experienced Numidian and Carthaginian horsemen who served under Hannibal.

MRRCAV-07R – Roman Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Republican Roman cavalryman carrying a red shield and driving his spear downwards in an aggressive attack.

Part of The Roman Army of the Mid Republic collection, this figure is ideal for recreating a cavalry clash during the Punic Wars.
