MRRCAV-07Y – Roman Cavalry with Yellow Shield | John Jenkins Designs

During the middle centuries of the Roman Republic, cavalry played an important supporting role in the Roman army, particularly during the great military campaigns of the Punic Wars.

While the legions were renowned for their disciplined infantry formations, mounted soldiers provided the mobility required for reconnaissance, skirmishing and pursuing defeated enemies.

Roman cavalrymen were traditionally drawn from wealthier citizens who could afford the considerable expense of a horse and military equipment. Their responsibilities included protecting the infantry's flanks and confronting opposing cavalry formations.

The absence of stirrups made mounted combat particularly demanding. Roman horsemen depended upon their riding skills and the design of their saddles to maintain their position during attacks.

MRRCAV-07Y – Roman Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Republican Roman cavalryman carrying a yellow shield, with his spear directed towards the left in a thrusting attack.

Part of The Roman Army of the Mid Republic collection, this figure captures the movement and intensity of ancient mounted warfare.
