NA559 – ‘Chosen Man, Rifleman Harris’
Fans of Sharpe's Rifles will immediately recognise Rifleman Harris, one of the memorable fictional soldiers associated with Richard Sharpe and the riflemen of the 95th Rifles.
NA559 – ‘Chosen Man, Rifleman Harris’ brings that much-loved screen character into King & Country's Napoleonic collection.
The fictional riflemen were inspired by a very real development in British military practice. Rifle-armed troops could operate ahead of conventional line infantry, using open-order tactics to screen the army and engage selected enemy targets.
The Baker rifle offered greater practical accuracy than the standard smoothbore infantry musket, although it was slower to reload. Riflemen were therefore trained to make use of cover, initiative and more dispersed formations.
Harris makes an excellent addition to a group of Sharpe characters, but he also works naturally within a broader Peninsular War display alongside conventional British infantry.
Available from The Military Workshop – King & Country's Chosen Man Rifleman Harris, combining the appeal of the Sharpe stories with the fascinating history of Britain's rifle troops during the Napoleonic Wars.
