NAP068A – Standing Rifleman, Private | Thomas Gunn
On 18 June 1815, the fields around Waterloo became the setting for the final great battle of the Napoleonic Wars. British and Allied infantry were repeatedly called upon to hold their formations against French attacks, including the famous massed cavalry assaults.
NAP068A – Standing Rifleman, Private is designed as another addition to Thomas Gunn's expanding British square.
This updated figure incorporates several small changes from the earlier version, including the removal of the gaiters, the addition of sideburns and a blanket roll that has been made to appear less perfectly arranged – a nice touch for a soldier who has endured the realities of campaigning.
The standing pose is extremely useful when building a square because it can be repeated among kneeling, firing and repelling figures without making the formation appear too uniform.
Position him shoulder-to-shoulder with other infantry around the perimeter of the square, with officers and colours farther inside, and the famous defensive formation begins to take shape.
