The bill was one of the characteristic infantry weapons of late-medieval England, and billmen formed an important part of armies during the Wars of the Roses.
NFYORK-07 – Yorkist Billman represents an infantryman fighting for the House of York during this turbulent period of English history.
Derived from an agricultural cutting tool, the military bill developed into a formidable polearm with a combination of cutting, thrusting and hooking capability. In the hands of organised infantry it was particularly useful once opposing forces closed and the battle descended into hand-to-hand combat.
This figure works naturally alongside Yorkist archers and armoured men-at-arms. Several billmen positioned together can form the close-combat element behind or beside a line of longbowmen.
