NKE-01 – Ramesses II | John Jenkins Designs

Few rulers of ancient Egypt left a legacy as monumental as Ramesses II, who reigned for more than six decades during the 19th Dynasty and became one of the most celebrated pharaohs of the New Kingdom.

NKE-01 – Ramesses II depicts the pharaoh whose name became inseparably linked with the Battle of Kadesh, fought against the Hittite Empire in approximately 1274 BC.

Ramesses led his army north into Syria, where Egyptian forces encountered the army of the Hittite king Muwatalli II near Kadesh on the River Orontes. Misleading intelligence contributed to the Egyptian divisions becoming dangerously separated before a major Hittite chariot attack struck the Egyptian camp.

Egyptian inscriptions subsequently celebrated Ramesses' personal courage and presented the battle as a magnificent royal triumph. Modern interpretations are more cautious: Kadesh was not the decisive Egyptian victory portrayed in the pharaoh's monuments, and the wider struggle between Egypt and the Hittites continued.

As the central personality of the series, NKE-01 makes a commanding focal point surrounded by Egyptian infantry, standards, archers and chariots.

Available from The Military Workshop – an imposing John Jenkins Designs representation of Ramesses II at the centre of one of the ancient world's most famous battles.
