NKE-11A3 – Egyptian Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
During the New Kingdom period, the Egyptian army developed a system of infantry warfare that combined massed archery with the advance of heavily armed close-combat soldiers.
Egyptian archers would deliver concentrated missile fire against opposing formations, allowing infantry armed with spears and swords to advance upon an enemy already weakened by the attack.
These close-combat soldiers were known as Nakhtu-aa, a term described by John Jenkins Designs as meaning the strong arm boys.
Among their distinctive weapons was the khopesh, a curved bronze sword closely associated with Ancient Egyptian military history.
NKE-11A3 – Egyptian Infantry by John Jenkins Designs depicts an Egyptian soldier holding his spear and shield in his left hand, while raising his khopesh high in his right hand, ready to strike.
The figure carries a distinctive white-and-brown cowhide shield, representing the equipment of the Egyptian infantry during the Battle of Kadesh in 1274 BC.
This single figure can be combined with other Egyptian infantrymen to create a varied and dynamic close-combat formation.
