NKE-20A – Libyan Mercenary | John Jenkins Designs
The armies of Ancient Egypt relied upon a combination of native Egyptian soldiers and foreign mercenaries recruited from surrounding regions.
Among these foreign warriors were soldiers from Libya, who served in several different capacities throughout the New Kingdom period.
Libyan fighters were recognisable by their animal-hide clothing and coloured ostrich-feather ornaments. Their weapons included bows and long swords, making them suitable for both missile combat and close-quarter engagements.
The historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs describes how Libyan warriors captured during the campaigns of Merenptah and Ramesses III could subsequently be incorporated into Egyptian military formations.
NKE-20A – Libyan Mercenary by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Libyan archer reaching over his shoulder to withdraw an arrow, preparing to load his bow.
The figure captures an important moment in the archery sequence, making it particularly effective when displayed alongside other Libyan warriors in different firing positions.
Part of the New Kingdom Egyptians collection, this miniature is ideal for creating a formation of Libyan archers supporting an advancing infantry force.
