NM-20A – Norman Spearman | John Jenkins Designs
Norman armies were not composed entirely of mounted knights. Infantry armed with spears formed an essential part of William's invasion force and fought alongside archers and cavalry at Hastings.
NM-20A – Norman Spearman represents one of these foot soldiers.
Spears were practical and widely used medieval weapons, providing greater reach than a sword while being considerably less expensive than the equipment required by an elite mounted warrior.
At Hastings, Norman infantry advanced against the English shield wall as part of repeated combined attacks. Their contribution is important for collectors wanting to represent William's army accurately rather than filling the battlefield exclusively with cavalry.
Available from The Military Workshop – a versatile John Jenkins Designs infantryman for adding the essential Norman foot soldiers to a 1066 display.
