NM-21A – Norman Spearman | John Jenkins Designs
Before the Norman cavalry could exploit a weakness in Harold's position, infantry had to help maintain relentless pressure upon the English line.
NM-21A – Norman Spearman represents one of the ordinary fighting men performing that demanding role.
At Hastings, the Anglo-Saxon shield wall proved extraordinarily resilient. Norman and allied infantry advancing uphill faced a tightly packed enemy formation equipped with shields, spears, swords and the formidable two-handed axes associated with Harold's housecarls.
A spearman such as NM-21A is therefore ideally placed near the front of a Norman attack, perhaps immediately below the English position with mounted knights preparing to follow.
Available from The Military Workshop – a purposeful John Jenkins Designs infantry figure for recreating the difficult Norman assault at Hastings.
