NM-37 – Norman Crossbowman
Although the longbow would become more famous in later English warfare, the crossbow was already an important weapon in continental Europe by the time of the Norman Conquest. Powerful and capable of delivering a heavy bolt, it provided William’s army with another form of missile support alongside its traditional archers.
NM-37 – Norman Crossbowman depicts one of these specialist soldiers, adding a very different weapon and silhouette to the Norman ranks. Crossbowmen could engage the enemy from a distance before the spearmen, swordsmen and mounted warriors closed for battle.
For a collector building a balanced representation of William’s army rather than concentrating solely on knights and infantry, this figure adds considerable interest and variety.
The Military Workshop is pleased to offer NM-37 as a distinctive addition to the John Jenkins Norman and 1066 collection.
