NM-50 – Alan Rufus

Alan Rufus – “Alan the Red” – was a Breton nobleman and an important supporter of William the Conqueror. The son of Eudes, Count of Penthièvre, he accompanied William during the Norman Conquest and is traditionally associated with the Breton contingent of the invading army.

Following the conquest, Alan was richly rewarded with extensive lands in England and became one of the wealthiest and most influential landholders of the new Anglo-Norman realm. His estates would form the basis of the great Honour of Richmond.

NM-50 – Alan Rufus brings a named historical personality into the John Jenkins 1066 collection, providing a natural leader for the Breton warriors and cavalry fighting alongside William’s Norman forces.
