NM-52 – Breton Cavalry

William’s invasion force in 1066 was not composed entirely of Normans. Warriors from Brittany, Flanders and other neighbouring territories joined his expedition, creating a diverse army united by the promise of conquest and reward.

NM-52 – Breton Cavalry represents one of the mounted Breton warriors who fought as part of William’s army. At Hastings, the Bretons formed an important contingent and were positioned on the left wing of the invading force.

Mounted figures such as this help capture one of William’s great battlefield advantages – a substantial body of cavalry capable of manoeuvring, attacking and withdrawing far more rapidly than infantry.

Available at The Military Workshop – a superb mounted John Jenkins figure for expanding the cavalry element of a Battle of Hastings display.
