PMRR-03YN – Principes offers a substantial six-man group of Roman heavy infantry in the yellow shield variation.
The Principes occupied the second line of the manipular legion and represented one of the key elements of Rome’s layered battle formation. Their role was to provide fresh strength if the Hastati in front were unable to overcome the enemy.
A six-figure set gives collectors the opportunity to recreate that depth properly. Rather than displaying all the Romans in a single row, these figures can be arranged in several ranks behind the forward infantry.
Add a standard bearer, centurion and nearby cavalry and the display begins to show the organisation of a complete Republican army rather than simply a collection of individual figures.
