The British assault on Quebec in 1759 depended heavily upon control of the St Lawrence River and the ability to move troops, equipment and supplies by water.
QBOAT-02 – Quebec Landing Barge, Barge Crew recreates that crucial transport element with an impressive 13-piece set.
Landing craft and boat crews played a vital role in moving British soldiers along the river and delivering them to points from which operations could be launched against the French defences. The campaign eventually culminated in the British ascent to the Plains of Abraham and the battle of 13 September 1759.
A large boat-and-crew set immediately changes the scale of a collection. Rather than depicting only soldiers once they have reached land, QBOAT-02 allows collectors to represent the difficult process of getting an army into position in the first place.
It can form the centre of a riverbank diorama, perhaps with troops preparing to disembark, other boats nearby or officers directing movement from shore.
