QF-38BN - Bearskin Grenadiers Set #1 | John Jenkins Designs

This four-figure set depicts French Grenadiers of the Régiment de Béarn waiting in reserve during the French and Indian War.

Representing selected infantry soldiers serving within the French military forces in North America, the set illustrates the role of grenadiers as an elite component of 18th-century infantry regiments.

The Régiment de Béarn served under the Marquis de Montcalm and was involved in several major engagements during the conflict between Britain and France.

Although grenadiers were no longer employed exclusively in their original specialised role, they continued to be regarded as particularly capable soldiers, often selected from the strongest recruits within their regiments.

At the Battle of Fort Carillon, also known as Ticonderoga, Montcalm detached the grenadier companies and positioned them as a reserve behind the main French defensive line.

The grenadiers were distinguished from ordinary infantry by certain aspects of their equipment and appearance. Their curved sabres and permission to wear moustaches were among the features associated with these selected soldiers.

This four-figure set provides an excellent opportunity to develop a larger French grenadier formation and complements the two-figure QF-38B set.

Particularly suitable for collectors recreating French infantry positions and reserve formations during the French and Indian War.
