ROM194 – Roman Officer with Cloak | Thomas Gunn
The success of the Roman Army depended not only upon the fighting ability of its legionaries but also upon the organisation, discipline and leadership of its officers.
Throughout the period of the Roman Empire, military officers were responsible for directing troop movements, organising camps, supervising training and maintaining order among the soldiers under their command.
The Roman military command structure was highly organised, with experienced centurions and senior officers providing the leadership necessary to maintain an effective fighting force across the Empire's vast territories.
Officers could be distinguished by elements of their clothing and equipment, including their military cloaks, which also provided protection against the weather during long campaigns.
ROM194 – Roman Officer with Cloak by Thomas Gunn depicts a Roman officer standing with his cloak draped around him and holding a staff.
The figure's composed stance suggests an officer supervising activities within a military encampment, observing his troops or preparing to issue instructions.
Designed to complement the Thomas Gunn Roman Legion Encampment range, this miniature adds an important command figure to displays depicting everyday life within the Roman Army.
