ROMCAV-09B – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry, Green Shield | John Jenkins Designs

Mounted auxiliary troops played a vital role in the military campaigns of the Roman Empire. While the legions provided the main body of heavy infantry, cavalrymen supplied the speed and manoeuvrability required for scouting, skirmishing and pursuing enemy forces.

Recruited from many different peoples across Rome's territories, auxiliary horsemen brought established traditions of riding and mounted warfare into Roman service.

Cavalry units were organised into alae, with smaller groups known as turmae commanded by decurions. Their equipment generally included mail armour, javelins, spears and the spatha long sword, allowing them to engage enemies in a variety of situations.

ROMCAV-09B – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted warrior turned to the right, his sword raised ready to strike and his green shield providing protection.

This action pose makes the figure especially suitable for cavalry charges and close-combat scenes.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, it complements the wider range of Roman auxiliary cavalry figures.
