ROMCAV-12A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry, Red Shield | John Jenkins Designs

The Roman army's reputation for military discipline extended beyond the legions to its supporting auxiliary formations.

Mounted auxiliary soldiers were especially important along the vast frontiers of the Roman Empire, where long distances and the threat of sudden attacks demanded troops capable of rapid movement.

Their duties ranged from reconnaissance and escorting military columns to skirmishing with enemy cavalry and pursuing retreating forces. Horsemen were organised into alae and smaller turmae, enabling commanders to deploy mounted troops where they were most needed.

Many auxiliary cavalrymen were drawn from provinces with established traditions of horsemanship and brought valuable experience to Roman military service.

ROMCAV-12A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs represents one of these mounted soldiers, equipped with a red shield.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, this figure offers collectors the opportunity to recreate Roman cavalry patrols, battlefield engagements and the mounted formations that supported the legions.
