ROMCAV-14A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry, Red Shield | John Jenkins Designs

Roman military success was built upon the cooperation of different types of troops. While legionaries formed the main strength of the army, auxiliary cavalry provided mobility, intelligence gathering and the ability to respond quickly to threats.

Recruited from the many peoples living under Roman authority, auxiliary horsemen brought specialist riding and fighting skills to the imperial army.

They were frequently used to protect the flanks of advancing legions, patrol borders and pursue enemies attempting to withdraw from battle. Their equipment commonly included mail armour, javelins, lances and the spatha cavalry sword.

Cavalrymen generally carried a clipeus, a relatively lightweight shield that offered protection without unnecessarily restricting movement on horseback.

ROMCAV-14A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs portrays a mounted auxiliary soldier carrying a red shield.

Part of the Roman Auxiliary Cavalry series, this figure is an excellent addition to a mounted Roman formation or a diorama depicting the Empire's extensive frontier campaigns.
