ROMCAV-14B – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry, Green Shield | John Jenkins Designs

The Roman Empire maintained an extensive network of military garrisons and frontier defences, relying heavily upon auxiliary cavalry to patrol the territories beyond its major settlements.

Unlike the heavy infantry of the legions, mounted auxiliaries possessed the speed and manoeuvrability required for reconnaissance, skirmishing and pursuing enemy forces. Their ability to move rapidly across open country made them particularly valuable during military campaigns.

Roman cavalry formations were organised into alae, divided into smaller units called turmae, each commanded by a decurion. Cavalrymen commonly wore mail armour and carried weapons suitable for fighting both at a distance and in close combat.

ROMCAV-14B – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted cavalryman carrying a green shield, with two javelins in one hand and a lance in the other.

This figure provides an excellent representation of the versatile mounted soldiers who helped maintain Roman military power.

Part of the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection, it complements other Roman auxiliary cavalry figures in historical displays.
