ROT-03 – Roth Würzburg Infantry Regiment, 2 Figures, Loading and At The Ready | John Jenkins Designs
ROT-03 “Roth Würzburg Infantry Regiment – Loading and At The Ready” is a two-figure set from John Jenkins Designs, depicting infantrymen of the Würzburg forces serving during the Napoleonic Wars.
The Grand Duchy of Würzburg was one of several German states drawn into Napoleon’s sphere of influence during the early 19th century. Like many of the smaller German territories allied with France, Würzburg supplied troops for Napoleon’s campaigns, and its infantry served alongside the much larger French forces across Europe.
This set portrays two soldiers in different stages of preparing to fire. One infantryman is shown loading his musket, while the second stands at the ready, creating a natural sequence of action when the figures are displayed together. The contrasting poses make ROT-03 particularly useful for building a realistic firing line, skirmish scene or defensive position.
Napoleonic infantry tactics depended heavily on disciplined drill. Soldiers were trained to load, present and fire their smoothbore muskets in carefully practised movements, often while standing shoulder-to-shoulder under battlefield conditions filled with smoke, noise and confusion. Maintaining formation and a steady rate of fire was essential to the effectiveness of an infantry battalion.
The distinctive Würzburg uniforms also make these figures stand out within a larger Napoleonic display. They provide collectors with an opportunity to represent some of the smaller German contingents whose contribution to Napoleon’s armies is sometimes overshadowed by the better-known French, British and Prussian forces.
ROT-03 works particularly well alongside other figures from the Roth Würzburg Infantry Regiment series, allowing collectors to gradually build a complete formation with soldiers loading, firing, advancing and supporting one another.
A detailed and characterful two-figure set, ROT-03 is an excellent addition for collectors of Napoleonic Wars, German allied contingents and John Jenkins Designs figures.
