RRBSC-06 - S. Carolina Reg. | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set represents marching line infantry of the South Carolina Provincial Regiment during the French and Indian War.
The figures depict soldiers belonging to the provincial military force established by the South Carolina Assembly in July 1757.
The regiment was formed to support British military operations during the struggle against French forces in North America.
Originally intended to consist of seven companies of 100 men each, the unit was placed under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth.
Howarth had previous military experience, including service during General Braddock's campaign.
The South Carolina Provincials became known as the Buffs, reflecting the facing colour of their uniforms.
The provincial authorities encountered considerable difficulties recruiting enough soldiers to reach the regiment's intended establishment.
By the middle of 1758, the unit contained approximately 550 privates, substantially fewer than the planned strength of 700 men.
These two marching infantrymen provide an excellent addition to a South Carolina Provincial Regiment collection, particularly when displayed alongside other marching soldiers and the regiment's command figures.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
